AUTUMN AND THE ALL SAINTS' DAY

10/31/2010 11:31:55 PM

Traditional autumn stuff and my recommendation :)

Hi friends,

autumn is here, leafs are sooo beautiful and it is getting colder and colder.

It's the time to welcome this foggy time and prepare slowly to Christmas.

Maybe you went outside this weekend and you saw many people going to cementery. That's because we celebrate these days as all saints'- or better says of all dead people day. It is the time to meet with family, visit cementery, light candles, pray and think about all people who are not with us anymore.

It is quite interesting mood walking in muddy sidewalk, scuff your feet in colorful leafs, see all the little lights which remind you your dead friends. Children put some flowers on grave and parents are talking him stories about their family...their grandma or maybe grandad...

CROSS

There is also one big cross on each cementery where you can light your candle for people or all people who died abroad, or whose graves you can't visit that time.

This celebration takes from 30 th, 31st October and the 1st November.

In America it is an annual holiday on 31 st October called Halloween...more happy, more funny, and more ghostlike :) Children have parties at school and in the evening of Halloween they wear costumes and visit houses in their neighbourhood with words- trick or treat. It is the time they collect all kinds of sweets, watch horror movies and tell ghost stories.

Because this holiday comes in the autumn apple harvest, people prepare good tasty candy apples prepared in a sticky sugar syrup.

This tradition comes also little to Slovakia when children have Halloween parties, wear costumes and enjoy also ghost mood.

It is my favourite time to cut a ghost pumpkin and see that lighting scary face.Great! I reccomend it to all of you..it is good time and children will love it...more crazy shape you cut more they will like it!

You can also cut the pumpkin to two parts, take off the seeds, salty them and bake in the oven. It is so delicious.

So spend your time with your friends and family, have a rest and enjoy the autumn time.

One more tip for you:

don't forget to buy crispy hot chestnuts - in slovakia called 'gaštany' and feel the autumn mood in the downtown.

chestnut

I made them in house by myself :) Just one walk with my boyfriend, collecting chestnuts into the bag and than peeling them.

cleaning chestnuts

How to prepare baked chestnuts? Just leave them in the water for 24 hours. Than make a cross cut over the chestnut case, place onto the baking pan and bake in the oven at about 180 - 200 degrees celsius till they open and are soft inside.

original chestnuts

But be careful...don't make a mistake and prepare correct chestnuts- there is also an edible chestnut as well as a horse chestnut, which is not for eating, but children can have fun by making a chestnut man, girl, doggy,...it is just up to their imagination :)

A HORSE CHESTNUT...non edible...

I also use wooden sticks - in slovakia called 'špajla' to connect all parts together.- you can buy it in paperstore as well as in drugstore. If you don't have these, use matches.

Bon apetit!

Yours, Danka.
